About Us
Our History
In 1945, before the town was even incorporated, Ajax Baptist Church committed itself to glorifying God through praise, fellowship, and the proclamation of the gospel.
Originally meeting in a one-room school house, and later on property given them by the Heron family, Ajax Baptist was brought into being by Pastor George Simpson and twelve other charter members who signed a statement of faith in the pastor’s home, November 29, 1945. Two weeks later, on December 14, the congregation marked its inaugural service.
Since then, generations have regularly gathered in the “church beside the highway” and dedicated themselves to the preaching and teaching of the Bible, the edification of the saints, the conversion of sinners, and to seeing the Kingdom of God established and strengthened both locally and abroad.
Ajax (and indeed, our country) is a very different place than it was all those decades ago. world,” and the world has certainly fulfilled its part. From an initial size of less than 3000 acres, Ajax now covers twice that area. In 1955, the population of the town was 5,689. By 1995, that had increased to 55,000 and today is more than 126,666. No longer a country highway, the 401, against which the church building resides, is now the busiest traffic corridor in North America.
Contrastingly, the good news of salvation remains ever the same: those who repent and believe in the Lord Jesus Christ will have all their sins forgiven, will be counted among God’s beloved children rather than His enemies, and will have the unshakable promise of eternal life. So for eighty years, Jesus has continuously and steadfastly built his church in Ajax the same as he does the world over and throughout every age: by calling one lost soul at a time unto himself through the preaching of the gospel.
Ajax Baptist, likewise, has never let itself be “tossed to and fro” by the changing winds and doctrines of the culture, but continues to worship, follow, and proclaim the changeless Christ to a changing world.
